Legal data analysis: why correlation is not causation

Course Description: In this course, participants will study how to apply basic statistical inference methods, and critically reflect on their results, using R programming. This course will enable participants to:

  • grasp basic theoretical concepts of causal inference design;
  • learn basic skills in R programming – how to continue learning on their own;
  • practice in working with observational data provided in the course, using central tendency metrics;
  • learn how to run an ordinarily least square (OLS) and understand its output;
  • critically reflect on observational empirical research in law; and
  • ensure future research collaboration with experienced social scientists.
