PhD course

Comparative Law

The first part of this course will consist in some methodological issues and will discuss do’s and don’ts of comparative law. In the second part two experienced researchers will discuss their experiences with comparative research. They will focus on how to design a comparative research, potential obstacles if the societal issue that you wish to compare is dispersed in more than one field of law (i.e., criminal vs administrative law). The lecturers will use the input of the PhD candidates with the aim to assist them with an adequate design of their comparative research. For this reason, the students who wish to follow this course will have to prepare an assignment that must be handed in three weeks prior to the course.
