Practical information
This workshop provides an introduction into conducting a systematic literature review (SLR) within legal research. The aim of a SLR is to produce a comprehensive overview of the available evidence base (case law, legal scholarship, empirical studies…) in a transparent and reproducible manner. It follows a predefined protocol that specifies how sources will be identified, selected, and analysed, helping researchers minimise biases such as confirmation bias (overlooking sources that challenge one’s assumptions). We will cover key steps in designing a SLR: from formulating review questions and defining inclusion and exclusion criteria, to building effective search strings for databases and developing coding strategies for analysing sources. Participants will also practice applying these steps to their own research projects.
