Practical information
We are pleased to invite you to a special event focused on publishing empirical-legal research. This event will consist of two complementary sessions where you can ask about—and compare notes on— publishing empirical-legal research. You’re welcome to join both sessions or register for just the one that interests you most:
- Date: 28 May
- Location: Global Lounge, KOG
- Programme:
- 10:00 – 10:30 Walk in
- 10:30 – 11:30 Expert Session with mr. dr. Lisa Ansems
- 11:30 – 12:00 Refreshing walk
- 12:00 – 13:00 Lunch & Learn with dr. Helen Pluut
1. Expert Session (Q&A) – 10:30-11:30
Join us for an interactive Q&A with mr. dr. Lisa Ansems, a member of the editorial board of Recht der Werkelijkheid and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology at Leiden University. Bring your questions about the reviewing process, navigating reviewer feedback, and considerations on publishing your empirical-legal work. Lisa will share insider perspectives and practical tips drawn from her experience as reviewer and academic.
We may be joined by another expert, keep an eye out for further announcements!
2. Lunch & Learn – 12:00-13:00
Following a short, refreshing walk, we’ll reconvene over lunch to debrief. This is your chance to discuss doubts, plans, and obstacles regarding publishing empirical-legal research with peers to learn from each another’s experiences, strategies, discuss common issues, and expand your network of empirical-legal scholars, with the helpful guidance of project leader of ELS@Leiden Helen Pluut.

NB: Registration is also possible through ELS lab @ Leiden directly. Filling in one of the forms suffices as a registration.
ELS Academy’s No-Show Policy:
Please note that the workshops are given by experts in the field who do this on a voluntary basis. Places are often limited and we have people on the waiting list. For this reason, the ELS Academy has a strict no-show policy. In case you are prevented from attending the workshop, kindly send an email to contact@elsacademy.nl at least 48 hours before the workshop to make space for people on the waiting list.
If you do not attend the workshop without prior cancellation, your supervisor will be informed about your no-show and you will not be able to register for another ELS Academy event for the next two months. This is also very unfortunate for us, however, it can be prevented if we receive a simple cancellation via e-mail.
Thank you for understanding and see you there!
