Practical information
In this session, Jill Coster van Voorhout and (some of) the six PhDs in this project, certainly Alexandrah Bakker, will detail an example of sociolegal research methods yet used of following financial flows in a big data set of a bank on potential victims of human trafficking for labor exploitation to criminal networks that may so exploit them (2015-2019). Extrapolating from this detailed example from previous research, we will thereafter set out how to similarly co-create indicators in focus groups with inter alia the 22 partner organizations including three banks assists studying the more systemic factors of ondermijning in and via the Netherlands in our ongoing NWO-funded COMCRIM (2024-2029). In short, this means a focus on its business model. Negatively put, hardly any organized crime can be committed without (a) persons, (b) money and (c) infrastructure. Therefore, we focus on (a) human trafficking, (b) money laundering and (c) corruption. All three are not only internationally recognized organized crimes themselves, but will also allow us to detect (a) forced commission of (other) organized crimes, (b) the whitewashing of their criminal proceeds, and (c) their effects of interweaving the under- and upperworld.

ELS Academy’s No-Show Policy:
Please note that the workshops are given by experts in the field who do this on a voluntary basis. Places are often limited and we have people on the waiting list. For this reason, the ELS Academy has a strict no-show policy. In case you are prevented from attending the workshop, kindly send an email to contact@elsacademy.nl at least 48 hours before the workshop to make space for people on the waiting list.
If you do not attend the workshop without prior cancellation, your supervisor will be informed about your no-show and you will not be able to register for another ELS Academy event for the next two months. This is also very unfortunate for us, however, it can be prevented if we receive a simple cancellation via e-mail.
Thank you for understanding and see you there!
