Practical information

On Thursday the 15th of June the Groningen Centre for Empirical Legal Research of the University of
Groningen is organizing an Early Career Empirical Legal Researchers Day. During this day early career
researchers will have the opportunity to present and discuss their research with their peers and
more experienced scholars in our field. Researchers involved in empirical legal research currently
working on their PhD or who completed it no more than 5 years ago are encouraged to submit a
paper. All participants will receive in-depth comments and feedback from an experienced researcher
with knowledge in their field.

If you would like to participate, as a researcher or referee, please fill out the form attached to this
invitation. Please do so before the 1st of April. If you have a preference for a referee, please do let us
know in the form and we will do our best to assign your paper to him/her.
To give the referees ample time to read and comment on your paper, we have set the deadline for
submission of the final draft version to 1 June 2023.

Papers and presentations can be written/held in English or Dutch. The meeting will be held in the
afternoon (12:00 – 17:00) in Groningen (online participation not possible), and will be preceded by a
complementary lunch and drinks afterwards. Participation is entirely free.

A selection of the submitted papers will be considered for publication in the Journal of Empirical
Research on Law in Action (Recht der Werkelijkheid), a journal for the social science study of law. The
journal provides an interdisciplinary platform for reflection in the fields of sociology of law, legal
anthropology, public administration, legal economics and legal psychology. It focuses in particular on
innovative empirical-theoretical contributions on social developments and the current meaning of
law.

We will inform you on rest of the process when we have an idea of the number of participants. If you
have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Marc Wever (marc.wever@rug.nl) and Paulien
de Winter (pauliendewinter@rug.nl))
