Practical information
The STRIDE research consortium is a six-year research project aimed at developing a future-proof system of legal support and protection for older adults. Bringing together doctrinal, comparative, and empirical research, the project responds to the challenges posed by population ageing and changing international human rights standards concerning autonomy, legal capacity, and protection against abuse and exploitation. The consortium seeks to develop evidence-informed recommendations that strike a better balance between autonomy and protection and reflect the experiences and needs of involved stakeholders, such as older adults, their representatives, judges and professionals.
Building on STRIDE’s findings, we have developed recommendations for legal reform and are currently evaluating them in a specially designed “lab” setting, inspired by ex ante legislative evaluation. This allows us to explore the feasibility, acceptability, and potential effects of proposed legal changes before they enter the legislative process. We would particularly like to engage participants in a discussion about this approach. How can empirical methods contribute to the evaluation of legal reforms? What are the opportunities and limitations of testing legal proposals before implementation?
Join them to reflect on these questions and to discuss how innovative research methods can contribute to more evidence-based and future-proof lawmaking!
